The Coast Guard says an underwater vessel has located a debris field near the Titanic wreckage. Officials haven't confirmed if that debris may be from the missing submersible. Titan lost contact with the surface ship just 45 minutes after its launch on Thursday. The discovery of that debris field came after more ships had joined the search operation. One of them a French deep-sea robot fitted with lights and cameras. Officials had said they would need light to pull off any kind of rescue mission. The debris field was found just moments after the search hit a critical mark. Mike Tobin has that story. The search for a missing tourist submersible hitting the critical 96 hour mark Thursday morning. That's when US Coast Guard officials estimate the oxygen supply on board could run out. A multinational operation involving air and sea assets is now searching an area twice the size of Connecticut for the Titan and its five passengers. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack. It's just one of many lumps that could be imaged down there on the seafloor. Rescue crews sending additional assets to the North Atlantic on Thursday. The Coast Guard says a remotely operated vehicle from the Canadian vessel Horizon Arctic reached the seafloor. A separate ROV from a French ship has also been searching the water. Experts say it has the ability to reach depths of 20,000 feet. These vehicles have cameras, they have other sensors on them, and they're connected via cable. Back up to the ship where the pilots are based. That's the only way you're going to be able to have eyes live on the seafloor. According to the sub's operator Ocean Gate, nearly 50 people successfully traveled on the submersible to the wreckage in 2021 and 2022. One former passenger described the potential risks that come with the trip. You might step on top of water coming in, breaching the thing, oxygen. They talk about noxious gases can be released. Or you might step on a live wire. The U.S. Coast Guard says up to 10 surface assets will deploy in the search area in the next two days. In Newfoundland, Canada, Mike Tobin, Fox 32 Chicago.
