Kelly, good morning to you, that additional information coming from the president himself and the U.S. military, as President Trump says those ISIS militants were targeting and killing Christians. This week, the U.S. military fired more than a dozen Tomahawk cruise missiles at ISIS targets in Nigeria. In a radio interview, President Trump said the timing was intentional. They said hit them on Christmas Day. It'll be a Christmas present. We hit ISIS, who are terrible. They're butchers. People could be seen carrying debris away from one target site. The Pentagon said its initial assessment indicated multiple ISIS militants were killed. Last month, the president issued a warning, saying the U.S. would go into Nigeria with, quote, guns a blazing if the government failed to protect Christians from ISIS attacks. They're killing the Christians and killing them in very large numbers. We're not going to allow that to happen. Nigeria has denied those accusations. So far this year, nearly 12,000 people have been killed by violent groups. CBS News national security contributor Sam Vinograd. There is not one group of bad actors operating in Nigeria that is only targeting Christians. There are multiple violent groups in Nigeria targeting Christians, targeting Muslims and others. U.S. counterterrorism operations in Nigeria on an ongoing basis would be incredibly complex. Nigeria's foreign minister said his government provided the U.S. military with intelligence before the strikes. We have been working closely with the Americans to combat terrorism, to stop the death of innocent Nigerians. Both the U.S. and Nigeria have signaled more strikes could follow. Lawmaker reaction was divided along party lines. The strikes that were delivered last night show the the commitment that he has to protecting people from ISIS. What are his plans? I believe under the War Powers Act, he needs to be coming to Congress. And tomorrow, President Trump is expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at his Mar-a-Lago home as both leaders discuss a pathway forward to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
