Saturday's agreement was signed after international pressure from China and the US to bring a halt to fighting, which broke out earlier this month. Both sides accused each other of instigating the violence and violating a previous ceasefire. However, Thai and Cambodian officials expressed a desire that this time the conflict will end for good. I hope this will be the final signing so that peace can be achieved in the area and people can return to their homes. The ceasefire will be monitored by a team of observers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and through direct coordination between Thailand and Cambodia. The agreement does not resolve the border dispute between the two countries over territory containing ancient temples claimed by both sides.
