Extreme weather, including temperatures reaching 46 degrees Celsius and strong winds, has complicated firefighting efforts. Nearly 100 firefighters from New South Wales have joined local crews, and officials continue to urge residents in bushfire-prone areas to evacuate immediately for their safety.

Everything we have is here. It's gone. Heartbreak shared by her neighbours. Some properties were spared. Others were not. Looking at it this morning, it's, um...it's devastating. Out-of-control fires are tearing through communities around Longwood in central Victoria. Around two hours north of Melbourne, the conditions are catastrophic. The worst since 2019's Black Summer. Yeah, it's still just coming out. It's still up and out. Homes have been destroyed. We have lost multiple properties. Businesses burnt. We've lost the farm and a lot of animals along with it. And the emergency may have already turned deadly in Longwood. Two adults and a child are missing. They were told to find shelter because it was too late to evacuate. Crews returned to find their home wiped out with no sign of the trio. Those three people, we do not know, at this point of time, where they may be. In the small town of Ruffey, a community centre has burnt to the ground, along with at least 20 family homes. A firefighter there says the main street looks like a bomb went off. If you're in a bushfire-prone area, a bushland area of Victoria, our strongest advice is leave now if you haven't left already. Extreme heat is baking the state, temperatures reaching 46 degrees in some parts. Crews are also dealing with strong winds and the threat of dry lightning sparking new blazes. For those who might be thinking that they can stay and defend in these conditions, don't. It's dangerous, it's not courageous. On the fire ground, fingers are already being pointed. Some residents are furious at the Victorian Premier and what they say is a lack of resources for rural crews. Where are the politicians? You know, I've been to numerous briefings. I haven't seen one. Yeah, it's frustrating. Help is on the way. Almost 100 firefighters from New South Wales have arrived and more are coming. The Victorian government's asked for three 12-hour strike teams, so they're almost immediate action forces that we hope to send to Victoria. The danger is far from over. Our thoughts are with all those confronting these difficult conditions today and over coming days. At evacuation centres, there is a sense of dread. People who fled their homes have no idea what they'll return to. I wasn't going to leave my home until this morning when the wind picked up and I'm like, no, I'm not staying, it's not worth it.
