Thousands of people are expected to travel through San Diego International Airport for Labor Day weekend, trying to squeeze in one more vacation before the end of summer.

San Diego International Airport is anticipating a significant increase in passenger traffic as thousands travel for the Labor Day holiday period. Airport officials estimate approximately 300,000 people will pass through the airport over four days, averaging about 75,000 travelers each day. 

While the airport itself is not experiencing major disruptions and local weather remains clear, officials encourage travelers to plan ahead and allow extra time for check-in and security. Some passengers may experience delays if traveling to areas affected by storms, such as Houston, Dallas, or Atlanta.

As you can see many people are in line right now for TSA check-in and thousands more expected to come for Labor Day weekend trying to squeeze in one more vacation before the end of summer. That includes Robin and Robert LeBlanc who are planning to enjoy a short vacation traveling from San Diego International. We're excited to go to Hawaii. I'm recently retired and so we've had this plan for probably about eight months. They didn't see too much congestion on the roadways getting here. It wasn't bad. No, it wasn't bad at all this morning. So maybe because we left early. David Fackler is another traveler flying to Huntsville, Alabama. He was headed east but had some delays. I figured it'd be kind of hectic. I was just like crossing my fingers hoping I would get out. I was supposed to fly out yesterday and then I got canceled. I was on the tarmac for like an hour and then Dallas had like thunderstorms. So we're hoping it's going well today. The flyers are part of the group of Labor Day travelers taking the new roadway to the airport, which doesn't have intersections or lights for a smoother ride. Officials at the airport say there aren't as many travelers this weekend compared to busier holidays like July 4th. So what we're anticipating during the four day period is about 300,000 people coming and going to the airport and that breaks down to about 75,000 people each day in the airport. So really we encourage people to plan ahead, always plan ahead, make sure you give yourself enough time to get to the airport. The LeBlancs made sure they could beat the traffic this morning before taking off. Normally it's very busy, especially the traffic on the freeway. So we were a little worried this morning, making sure we got here on time. Now we're not seeing any disruptions here as the weather in San Diego is pretty clear. But if you're headed to the Gulf Coast, there might be some storms. So you might see some delays if you're headed to Houston, Dallas or Atlanta in San Diego International Airport.
