CNN’s Laura Coates speaks with “The Osbournes” executive producer Jeff Stilson about what it was like working with the Osbourne family.

What was your reaction when you heard that he had passed away? Really sad. I love the man. I got to spend five years with him working on the show. And great five years. He's an amazing person. Funny, wise, a little bit crazy, smart. Just kind of the perfect stew. Really, really enjoyed being with that family for five years. Can't say enough about them. I mean, we all watched the love in that family as well. I thought it was always very touching to see that they were vulnerable. They were close. There was the love story between him and, of course, Sharon. I want to play for you something that he told CNN's Larry King back in, oh, I think it was 2003. Listen. I never realized the power of TV. I mean, rock and roll's this big, TV's this big. You ain't kidding. And so I was in Buxton, and this woman, very conservative woman, stops me. And she goes, what are you doing in Buxton? I'm doing a show. She goes, what kind of a show? I go, a rock and roll show. She goes, oh, you do that as well? I go, ma'am, I haven't been doing it for 36 years. She goes, you have? Because people know me just primarily from the show, you know? Yeah, I mean, people thought if you watched the Osbournes, maybe you knew his other, of course, career. But tell me about the kind of cultural impact that show had, particularly when it was airing. We had no idea. It was an MTV show. So, you know, you go for a small market share. You're on basic cable at that point. But we ended up competing with primetime shows. People love the family. And the truth is we don't have much in common with the Kardashians because we never set anything up. We just turned on the cameras. And that family is, well, you hear the word authentic a lot now. That family is authentic. Ozzy's authentic, Cher and the kids. We just turned the cameras on and and they did their thing. I mean, it was it was impactful and it was a lot of fun. I can't tell you how much fun it was there. They're wonderful people. It certainly was magnetic. And of course, his aura on stage was also magnetic and incredible. And think about the amount of time that he has been in the the world as this icon in music. What was your favorite memory of Ozzy? And what do you think his legacy really is? Well, his musical legacy. Well, we just lost Brian Wilson. We lost Sly Stone and we lost Ozzy. They're all musical geniuses. And they share more than that in combination. They they share that they're kind and they had their struggles, but they overcame them ultimately. And as far as his his legacy. Well, just when it comes to his personal life is look at his wife, look at his kids. I mean, that says it all. Those kids, I can't tell you how great those kids are. And and Sharon is there very few great shooters. And in our business. But she's one of them. She is an amazing woman. And just to watch that group interact every day, we were in there six days a week. And cameras were just there. There are flies on the wall. And that was their real dynamic. We didn't have to set anything up. They were just this wonderful family.
