In water polo, Australia’s men’s team, known as the Sharks, experienced a dramatic loss to the US. Despite leading in the final minute of regulation, they ultimately lost in a penalty shootout with a score of 5-4.

The men's 5,000 meters event saw significant drama, with a cameraman causing disruptions and rough play leading to multiple runners falling on the home straight. In the 800 meters, Australian runners Peter Boll and Joseph Deng must compete in the repercharge to advance to the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Connor Murphy advanced to the triple jump final, the first Australian to do so since his father achieved the same feat in Sydney 2000.

The talk comes a day after President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed Ukraine, Iran and other issues in a call the Kremlin described as "frank and constructive."
