The left accuses von der Leyen of causing irreparable damage during her second term, particularly criticizing her response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and her refusal to suspend agreements with Israel or impose an arms embargo. The far right, represented by the Patriots for Europe, also objects to von der Leyen's trade policies, including agreements with the United States and Mercosur, and claims the Commission has failed on key issues such as peace, trade, and migration.

A previous motion of censure against von der Leyen was overwhelmingly rejected by the Parliament. Passing a no-confidence motion requires a two-thirds majority, making such outcomes rare. While the left has ruled out supporting the far right's motion, there is speculation that the far right could back the left's proposal to force von der Leyen's resignation.

While the left has clearly ruled out voting in favour of the Patriots' motion, the far right group could eventually support the leftist proposal in order to get their goal, forcing Ursula von der Leyen to resign.
