In October, scientists established the first Comorian-led research programme dedicated to the species. First, this species is very important to us, because it is our national emblem. In fact, it is featured on our football team's jersey. Secondly, it's very special because scientists thought, or rather the whole world thought, that this species was extinct. Fortunately, in the Comoros, we can find this species, which is very rare but has been confirmed to exist in the country. For the population, the resilience of the Siliconth also mirrors the trajectory of Comoros. With fewer than one million people, the small nation hopes to rival bigger countries, whether in science or on the football pitch. The Siliconth holds particular importance for me, because it is a symbol. It is our symbol. In addition to that, it is only found in our region, so we must preserve and conserve it. After a difficult start against Morocco, Comoros' national football team is certainly hoping that the Siliconth's history of survival is a good omen for its upcoming performances in the Africa Cup of Nations.
