They are looking after us, but I still want to go back. Cambodians living in Thailand are making the same decision. There used to be more than a million. Tens of thousands have fled through the last remaining border crossing every day. Attacks on Cambodians have been so common, the Thai police have issued warnings that offenders will be punished to the full extent of the law. Sorn Chani had worked and lived in Thailand for more than a decade, but fears of reprisals have sent her back home. I worked in Thailand for many years. I was able to pay my microfinance loan because I worked in Thailand. But when the war started, I decided to come back to Cambodia to find work. Earlier on Monday, before the news of the ceasefire, as the two leaders met, peace seemed a long way away. Earlier this morning, we were at a center in the town of Buriram, where one woman we spoke to, when we asked how she was feeling, she just burst into tears. It has impacted people hugely. They just, at this stage, want to get home, and this ceasefire announcement should allow them to do it. The guns should stop at midnight, and in the next 24 hours, the people will return.
