It's been more than a year since Erick Rangel-Ibarra, the primary suspect in Lesly Palacio's killing, was arrested in Mexico.

Eric Rangel Ibarra, the suspect in the 2020 homicide of Leslie Palacio near Valley of Fire State Park, has been extradited from Mexico to Las Vegas. Las Vegas police and the U.S. Marshals announced that Ibarra is now in custody at the Clark County Detention Center, following years of evasion after authorities identified him as a suspect and linked him to the crime through video evidence.

Ibarra's father, Jose, assisted him in fleeing to Mexico and previously served two years in prison for helping to dispose of Palacio's body. The extradition concludes a lengthy pursuit, with law enforcement and Palacio's family playing key roles in bringing Ibarra back to face charges.

Almost five years after a Las Vegas woman was found dead near Valley of Fire State Park, the man accused of killing her and then fleeing to Mexico is now behind bars at the Clark County Detention Center. Today, Las Vegas police and the U.S. Marshals announced Eric Rangel Ibarra's extradition to face charges in the 2020 death of Leslie Palacio. Police determined there was foul play in the case and identified Eric as a suspect. Video previously shared with Channel 13 shows Eric and his father Jose moving Palacio's body from their home the same day that she disappeared. Authorities say Jose helped Eric escape to Mexico and he went undetected for years before being arrested last July. His extradition has been pending since then. A short time ago, the United States Marshals brought the pursuit to an end when we brought Ibarra back from Mexico to Las Vegas. He is now in the custody of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The fight to get to today was extremely, extremely long and difficult and the family kept going. They did not stop. It's very, very important because if it wasn't for Leslie's family, I don't know if we would get to today. Certainly a bittersweet day for Leslie Palacio's family. As for Jose, he previously admitted to helping Eric dispose of Leslie's body and has been released after serving two years in prison.
