Karki, known for her anti-corruption stance and integrity during her tenure as Supreme Court Chief Justice, was appointed as interim prime minister following negotiations among political and legal leaders. She is expected to form a new cabinet soon, with general elections scheduled for the following year.

After nearly a week of unrest, grief-stricken families finally received the bodies of those killed by security forces during nationwide youth-led anti-corruption protests. They came back saying that they were scared as tear gas and gunshots were being fired. My nephew told his friends that we shouldn't be scared and what we are doing is for the country. They went towards the front and then he got shot. The riots were sparked by the former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's government banning social media platforms on Monday, following an online campaign highlighting the lavish lifestyles of politicians' children and allegations of corruption. The ban has since been rolled back, curfews were imposed and security forces were deployed. By Tuesday, ex-PM Mr Oli had stepped down. I have witnessed occasional riots during my student life, but I have never seen a riot like this. Perhaps this kind of riot is the first in Nepal. And after several chaotic days and negotiations between President Ramchandra Pardel, Nepal's army chief, legal experts and youth leaders, the President declared on Friday that the former government was dissolved and a new interim Prime Minister was sworn in. Former Supreme Court Chief Justice Sushila Karki, the first woman to lead the Himalayan nation. The country is now getting a solution to the problem. After a very long time, the political sphere of the nation is changing. Now we are expecting the nation to come out of this crisis. The 73-year-old former Chief Justice was chosen for her former stance against corruption and her reputation for honesty and integrity. Karki is expected to appoint her new cabinet ministers in the coming days, with the general election set for March next year.
