Typhoon Kalmaegi has caused severe damage across the Philippines and Vietnam, resulting in almost 200 deaths in the Philippines alone and additional fatalities in Vietnam before the storm weakened. The typhoon brought a month's worth of rain in a single day, sweeping away homes and leaving more than a million people hurt or homeless. 

Rescue operations are ongoing as soldiers search for missing persons and assist those trapped by debris and flooding. Experts warn that rising ocean temperatures are likely to fuel more intense storms in the future, putting coastal communities at greater risk. Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared an emergency, with another typhoon reportedly approaching the region.

Soldiers are still rescuing the trapped and searching for dozens missing. This is the 13th typhoon to hit the Philippines this year pummeling an area that's also seen a devastating earthquake and a series of other weather emergencies. Kalmegi has now moved on to Vietnam where it killed more people before weakening. But ocean temperatures are rising fueling future storms. But overall, with intensity increases, we expect much more damages and coastal communities will be in the front line. Indeed, even as Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declares an emergency over this typhoon another is on the horizon approaching quickly aiming for these islands as well as Taiwan.
