There's not much we can do. Forgive me for crying. All we have left are our clothes and our documents. My livelihood, my mechanic shop, is gone. And my son worked with me. Thank God for strength and courage for the people, not just for me. The wind came, swept me up and threw me against the grill. I tried to get up but fell again and hid under the bench where a metal sheet had fallen. I stayed there until it passed. When I came out, everything was destroyed. My daughter and my wheelchair-bound mother were inside. I was devastated. My father-in-law was inside too. In two minutes, everything was on the ground. Some people lost family, but we must thank God we're alive, that we didn't lose anyone. That's what matters the most. The tornado's winds reached 250 kilometers an hour, causing injuries from flying debris. It was a very sad and intense night. There were lives lost. Some patients remain in the ICU and we are updating their medical status. The Paraná state government has declared three days of mourning and requested extra funds from the federal government for recovery efforts. The work of the firefighters continues tirelessly in the search for victims, whether or not their people are buried. And thank God the firefighters have already done their part. The disaster comes as world leaders are meeting in Brazil for the 30th annual COP climate conference, trying to decide how to respond to a world with more violent and unpredictable weather.
