Hospitals are unable to provide adequate care, and many residents cannot afford private medical treatment, forcing volunteers to fill critical gaps despite severe shortages of medicines and equipment.

Key facilities like the Bouri Health Center's dialysis unit have ceased operations, leaving patients without life-saving treatments. The conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced over 14 million people, making Sudan one of the world's most severe humanitarian emergencies.

Pain and suffering continue unabated in Sudan after months of civil war and widespread destruction. As the army consolidates control, some residents have begun returning to the capital Khartoum, hoping to rebuild their lives. However, the humanitarian crisis is deepening. Alongside food shortages, the collapse of the health system is pushing civilians to the brink. With a group of colleagues, we have begun working voluntarily since before the war in Khartoum. The young volunteers here are deeply committed to their work, providing health care services to the local community despite shortages of medicines and diagnostic tools. Some are working outside their expertise, even searching for medicines and securing them from outside Khartoum. Hospitals are unable to provide adequate support, and a functioning health care network is largely absent. Many people are struggling to access even the most basic medical treatment. The hospitals around us are private hospitals, and accessing them requires a lot of money, which is very costly. We want to ease this burden on people. Perhaps the most devastating loss is at the Bouri Health Center, where the dialysis unit, once a lifeline for kidney failure patients, has completely ceased operations. We used to work here in the dialysis unit. We had 10 machines, which were sufficient for 48 patients per day. Now these machines have minor faults and need engineers to inspect them. We hope they can be restored to operation, even at 50 percent capacity. The ongoing civil war has claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced more than 14 million people, leaving Sudan facing one of the world's most severe humanitarian emergencies.
