Fighting in El Fashir, the capital of North Darfur, has intensified as the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continue their siege on the city. Recent airstrikes in the Darfur region have resulted in at least 19 deaths and dozens of injuries, according to a local NGO. 

A drone strike by the Sudanese army on a medical clinic in South Darfur killed 12 people, while bombings later the same day in El Fashir killed seven more, reportedly carried out by the RSF. The RSF has maintained a siege on El Fashir for over a year, aiming to capture the last major Darfur city under army control. The United Nations has warned of starvation due to blocked aid deliveries and called for a ceasefire to protect civilians.

Local sources said these bombings were most likely carried out by the RSF. The paramilitary group of General Helmeti has besieged El Fasha for more than a year. The RSF seek to take control of the last major Darfur city still in the hands of the Sudanese army. Observers say the rapid support forces have stepped up their assaults in recent weeks. The United Nations said El Fasha faces starvation as the siege blocks aid delivery. UN Chief António Guterres on Friday called for a ceasefire to protect civilians.
