The University of South Florida (USF) has established the Bellini College of AI, Cybersecurity, and Computing, enrolling 3,000 students in its first year. The college is designed to prepare students for careers in rapidly evolving fields such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, with support from major donors and state funding.

Located in Tampa, the new college is positioned at the center of a growing technology and cybersecurity hub. Students benefit from strong internship opportunities, competitive starting salaries, and certificate programs that can be completed in a few semesters. Plans are underway to construct a dedicated building for the college in the coming years.

Studying the world of AI at USF

It is the hottest major on campus, and we'll be counting on graduates to keep our vital information safe and to guide us through the expanding world of AI. They are the first students in the new Bellini College of AI, Cybersecurity, and Computing at USF. And they're ready to jump into a field that's lucrative, but changing at the speed of light. Some of us may fear where AI is going, but not 20-year-old Mackenzie Friel. In a way, that kind of excites me that we don't fully know it. I think to be at the forefront, especially here at USF with this new college that's really embracing AI, I feel very prepared to sort of tackle it and handle it. She's one of 3,000 students enrolled in the first year of USF's Bellini College of AI, Cybersecurity, and Computing. And they may be in the right place at the right time. I think Tampa Bay is an awesome spot. It's the epicenter of technology and cybersecurity, it seems like. And so the new college and USF and all of the innovation around the area has been able to spark that. Cybersecurity firms keep moving here. Military, like CENTCOM and SOCOM at MacDill, are big technology users. And USF is going all in. The main donor, businessman Arnie Bellini, believes the Tampa area could be the next Silicon Valley. Both Mackenzie and Tim have found great internships. And it's not unusual for cybersecurity graduates to start at $75,000 a year or more. We have had graduates who actually went to, one of them went to the West Coast, $100,000 to start. And the dean says more students in other majors are also enrolling in cybersecurity and AI. Because AI cybersecurity is something that is permeating the society. It's permeating every job that's out there. We need to train the next generation. And the next generation is set to take on what's coming our way in computers. I think as long as we know how to use the tools responsibly, ethically, there isn't really too much to fear. More than $50 million has been raised between Arnie Bellini and other donors. Along with state money, they hope to have a building for this new college within the next few years. The new Bellini College at USF also offers certificates in cybersecurity. Students can earn those in just a couple of semesters.
