Dry weather is coming for the Southern Plains while much lower temperatures are in store for the Northern Plains after soaking storms early in the week.

A cold front is moving through the central United States, triggering severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across several states. Areas in southern Kansas, northern Oklahoma, and parts of North Dakota and Minnesota have experienced severe thunderstorm warnings and reports of funnel clouds. 

Flooding concerns are increasing, particularly from Texarkana to Cincinnati, as slow-moving storms bring rounds of rainfall. While some regions are seeing pleasant weather, others face travel delays and flash flooding risks. Cooler air is expected to follow the storms, bringing record low temperatures to some areas and improving conditions in southern states by the following day.

that cold front. We can see the front that's going to be marching in our direction when we switch over to the visible or the infrared satellite loop. There's the frontal location. That's what plunges southward over the next few days, which we head back to radar. We've had some severe storms. Damien is going to talk about the southern plains. So just a brief look into the southern Kansas areas around Harper County, southern parts of Sedgwick County and northern Sumner County. Severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect right now. We also have some activity near Woodward, Oklahoma, but other areas to the north. While we don't have much lightning up near ST joseph for Kansas City, it's been a damp and kind of drizzly day in that area. Temperatures are down in some of those areas. So look out for some scattered storms. Slow movers are popping in southern parts of Minnesota. These slow moving thunderstorms are just drifting. They're not severe in southern Minnesota. We do have a severe thunderstorm in progress west of Bismarck here and here we are south of Richardson. So southeastern Stark County and northeastern Hettinger County of North Dakota. A severe thunderstorm is in progress, turning the reports on, not seeing much out of that yet. Here is a couple of funnel cloud reports, though, and this one from just midday today in Adrian, North Dakota video indicating a weak funnel cloud. Also just earlier this afternoon in Blomkist in Minnesota, a report of a funnel cloud there as well. So we need to keep an eye out for some severe weather in the next half hour or next hour or so, getting closer to the state line or the international border up and far northeastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota. That'll be a concern quickly looking ahead to tomorrow. More storms breaking out into the upper Midwest. This is your severe threat set up. Won't see a whole lot of severe weather, but there will be some strong thunderstorms in a couple of these could become severe Wednesday. They plunge south into Chicago, Peoria, Kansas City, but colder air marches in. Damien, it's gonna be a big change behind this front. That's right. That colder air is gonna bring some record breaking cold here to some areas. But yes, it's gonna feel not just like September, Jeff. It's gonna feel like October here for some of those areas, which for some means some temperatures in the thirties possible. Meanwhile, we got some flood concerns farther south. That's right. We'll be watching out for increasing flooding concerns here as we have throughout, not just today, but into tomorrow as well. The good news is nothing like what we saw over the weekend in Texas, but travel delays and drenching downpours will definitely be possible here in this highlighted region. We still have ongoing light to moderate showers here continuing, and as you can see over the past couple of hours, this rainfall hasn't really budged much, hasn't really moved very far. So some of these areas are just seeing rounds and rounds of light to moderate rainfall, which is why that overall flooding potential is so high here across this region. Now we're also watching out for those severe storms there along the I-35 corridor in far southern parts of Kansas. We've also seen multiple severe thunderstorm warnings there in far northwestern parts of Oklahoma. So we will be watching out for this region, especially as those storms get closer to the I-40 corridor in Oklahoma. So Clinton, Weatherford, those areas will be watching out for storms here as we had throughout the rest of this afternoon and this evening. Here's the risk of flooding rainfall as we head throughout your Tuesday from Texarkana up through Cincinnati. This whole region right here will be watching out for localized flash flooding concerns with frequent downpours, especially across the mid south. Memphis is almost gonna be bullseyed for this region of rainfall that we will be tracking. Tuesday, heat across south Texas. Now far southern Texas, Corpus Christi, Laredo, down through McAllen, Brownsville, Progresso. Pretty good showers, pretty good storms. But for Oklahoma, Kansas, the Texas Panhandle, pleasant weather. Really nice forecast here for your Tuesday afternoon. Here's a look at our highs we'll be tracking. Still gonna be hot for some parts of Texas, including 95 in Austin, 88 in Dallas, 81. Pretty nice afternoon there in Oklahoma City Tuesday afternoon. Across the rest of the region here as we head into Wednesday, that's when the nice weather is really gonna be in the forecast, especially south of the I-40 corridor from Amarillo, Oklahoma City and almost all of the Lone Star State. It's gonna be dry here as we head into your Wednesday afternoon.
