The convoy, consisting of around 20 boats and participants from 44 countries, delayed its mission to prioritize safety after Spain's National Weather Agency issued warnings for strong winds and storms. 

Thousands of supporters had gathered to see the flotilla off, which represents the largest attempt to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza by sea. The organizers have not specified when the mission will resume its journey to deliver aid to Gaza, where humanitarian needs remain acute.

An expedition that departed Barcelona with much fanfare on Sunday, carrying humanitarian aid activists and celebrities to Gaza, has been forced back to port. According to a statement from the organizers, the global Samud flotilla, consisting of some 20 boats with participants from 44 countries, chose to return and delay its departure to prioritize safety after a storm hit parts of Spain overnight. Thousands of pro-Palestinian supporters had gathered under a scorching sun on the docks of Barcelona's Old Port on Sunday to cheer the mission as it took off. But facing winds of over 56 kilometers per hour, some of the smaller boats taking part in the mission would have been at risk, a statement said. Spain's National Weather Agency had issued warnings of rainfall and strong storms for Catalonia as well as other parts of Spain. The flotilla is the largest attempt yet to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza by sea, but the plan to deliver much-needed humanitarian aid to an enclave gripped by rising hunger debts and what experts call a man-made famine. It was unclear when the maritime convoy would depart Barcelona again.
