Lachlan Kennedy joins me now from Macquarie Street and Lachy, the Premier has received some legal advice about potentially removing Kiama MP Gareth Ward from State Parliament. Yes, this is the big issue, Sandra. Some hastily sought legal advice after Ward was found guilty on Friday of serious sex offences. The Premier says it is, quote, ridiculous to think that he could remain in Parliament and so a motion is being prepared based on that advice to expel Gareth Ward from State Parliament when MPs return here on Tuesday. It would be based on the notion that his removal is necessary to ensure the integrity of the Chamber. There is also a rule here in the lower house, Standing Order 254, that allows for a vote to expel a member if the house judges them to be guilty of conduct not worthy of a parliamentarian. The Liberals, the Opposition Leader Mark Speakman has said his party would support an expulsion motion. That would then trigger a by-election in Kiama. Chris Minns says Labor would have to think about whether they would run there seeing as they only lost by about 700 votes back in 2023. You expect they would. The Liberals are also having conversations in the backgrounds. Ward won Kiama for them in 2011. For his part, Gareth Ward does maintain his innocence and people close to him have told me, Sandra, that he does plan to make an appeal against Friday's verdict.
