A group of St. Francis residents is pushing back against a proposed high-rise development in an area known as The Triangle, saying the current plans don't reflect what the community envisioned during public input sessions nearly a decade ago.

More than 200 residents have signed a petition seeking small businesses, health care, and green space rather than high-rises. The mayor has stated he will not comment on the proposal until more information is available in March, while residents plan to speak during public comment to ensure their concerns are heard.

To understand why they're worried, you have to go back a few years to a city plan that was created with the vision by the residents themselves. Plans once proposed moving the library, but community pushback stopped it. Do you think that there's a chance that it could work again? We're hoping. Haven says she discovered the plans all on her own. You guys didn't get maybe like a newsletter from the city or an email or anything? No. That's why they're spreading the word. Over 200 signatures so far. They want small businesses, health care, and green space, not high-rises. This week they'll speak during public comment. Let's slow down on this a little bit and let's make sure that we do the right thing. I reached out to the mayor who says he won't comment on the proposal until he gets more information in March, but that he's heard from both sides of the issue. Because once that gets approved, we know we're gonna have to live with that for decades and decades to come. For these neighbors, that means one thing. Time is of the essence.
