The plane was en route to Lithuania as part of a NATO policing mission, with relatives of Spanish troops and journalists among the passengers.

Robles stated that such incidents would not diminish Spain's commitment to NATO or support for Ukraine. The region has seen multiple cases of GPS jamming, reportedly linked to Russia, affecting both military and civilian flights. The European Commission President also faced a similar incident recently, but both planes landed safely.

This year, dozens of cases of GPS jamming in the Baltic states have been blamed on Russia. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen faced a similar incident whilst flying over Bulgaria in what the Commission said was a suspected Russian operation. Both planes were ultimately able to land safely.
