Australian marathon swimmer Moesha Johnson has won a silver medal after a gruelling race in the Seine River at the Paris Olympics. She displayed cuts and bruises after swimming in the polluted water and took measures to try and prevent bacterial infection.

Moesha Johnson, a marathon swimmer, recently participated in a swim in the Seine River. She emerged with cuts on her right side caused by thorny vines on the riverbank. Johnson noted she opted not to shave for the race to avoid potential razor cuts, only to end up with cuts from the vines.

Johnson described the river's current as unusually strong, likening it to swimming backwards at times. To maintain her rhythm, she focused on a song stuck in her head—ironically, "Poison," considering the water's historical pollution issues.

Authorities confirmed the E. coli levels, which had been elevated due to sewage overflow, dropped before the race. Nonetheless, Johnson took precautions using antibiotics, eye wash, eardrops, and nasal spray. She reported that her team finished the race healthy.

The Seine had been off-limits to swimmers for nearly a century due to its dirty water. Recently, the government invested 2.5 billion dollars to clean the river. This investment is part of an effort to convince Parisians that the river is now safe for swimming.

The shiny neck ornament isn't the only memento Moesha Johnson has from her marathon swim in the Seine. These are what she calls her battle wounds. All of us on our right side have cuts. Caused by thorny vines on the riverbank. It wasn't ideal, I didn't shave down for this race because I didn't want any accidental razor cuts and now I've come out with cuts anyway. The bigger drama she says, the current, the stronger she's ever faced. At times it was like going backwards. You could look left and look right and you weren't moving. To cope she turned to music. I had this song stuck in my head the entire way. Do you know the song Poison? That's so ironic because of the water quality. Authorities say the level of E. coli caused by sewage overflow dropped before the race. Whether you want to or not you accidentally take water in so it tasted fine. Still she used antibiotics, eye wash, eardrops and nasal spray. We've come out, our team's healthy so yeah let's just keep it going. The dirty water here has kept swimmers out of the Seine for a century but now the government spent two and a half billion dollars cleaning it up. Having the athletes give the river the thumbs up is a crucial step in convincing Parisians it's safe for them too. Would you swim in it? Yeah if you pay for that, yeah if you pay me for that. I saw the mayor of Paris swimming so it's okay I think. Me? Swimming in this? No no no no no. Would you jump in the Seine for fun? I think if I was given the opportunity yes. Perhaps just another reason she's so good at it.
