Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy indicated that a peace proposal is nearing completion, but a deal is unlikely before Christmas, as both sides anticipate further military actions and Moscow has rejected a temporary truce.

For senior Russian military commanders, not even Moscow is safe. It was frightening. At first I thought a Shahid or some other Ukrainian drone had been shot down. This is what remains of the car carrying Lieutenant General Fenil Savarov after a bomb underneath was detonated, killing him in the blast. It's far from the first time Russian generals have been assassinated in the capital. In April, another was killed in the same way, and in December last year, one was killed by a bomb hidden in an e-scooter. Ukraine claimed responsibility for that hit, but Kyiv is yet to comment on this latest strike. Various versions of the killing are being examined, one of which involves the possible role of Ukrainian intelligence services in organising the crime. The attack comes as Ukrainian and Russian negotiators returned from a weekend of peace talks in Miami. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confident a proposal is close, even if it doesn't contain everything he wants. The basic block of all documents in my view is ready. There are some things we are probably not ready for, and I'm sure there are things the Russians are not ready for either. Such a deal is unlikely to be signed before Christmas, when Ukraine is anticipating to be attacked, with Moscow rejecting the idea of a temporary truce. It is in their nature to make some kind of massive strike on Christmas, specifically on our Christmas. Ukraine may have again shown Moscow is not out of reach.
