Records have tumbled as long distance superstars pounded the pavement at this year's Sydney Marathon. 35,000 runners came out to race and thousands more packed the city to cheer them on.

The Sydney Marathon attracted over 35,000 runners from more than 150 countries, with participants racing through the city and finishing at the Sydney Opera House. Ethiopia's Halimerium Kiros set a new Australian marathon record with a time of 2 hours, 6 minutes, and 6 seconds, while Sifin Hassan became the fastest woman to complete an Australian marathon. 

Kenyan Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge also participated, focusing on uniting people through the sport. Australian runners celebrated strong performances, and the event was marked by widespread support from families and fans along the course.

While multi-distance marvel Sifin Hassan smashed another record, the fastest ever woman to run an Australian marathon. Kenyan Olympic legend Eliud Kipchoge slipped out of the leading pack, but that didn't faze him. I have nothing to prove, but actually my mission is to bring all the people together. And he did just that, his supporters out in droves. I've got a signature from Kipchoge and Sifin Hassan, so I'm pretty excited about that. Amazing, I can't wait to do it myself when I turn 18. While the Aussies did their country and families proud. On a good day I might get top 3 out of the Aussies and I got 2nd, so I think it's a really good day today. How proud are you of Dad?
