Adam Driver has revealed there was a Kylo Ren movie he was attached to that was rejected by Disney. Academy Award winning director Steven Soderbergh was also involved, possibly to direct, and the script was co-written with Soderbergh's frequent collaborator, Scott Z. Burns.

Adam Driver has revealed that he and director Steven Soderbergh spent two years developing a Star Wars sequel titled 'The Hunt for Ben Solo,' which would have continued the story of Kylo Ren following 'The Rise of Skywalker.' The screenplay, written by Scott Z. Burns, was pitched to Lucasfilm executives, who reportedly showed interest in the project.

However, the proposal was ultimately rejected by Disney leadership, who questioned the plausibility of Kylo Ren's return. Driver stated that despite enthusiasm from Lucasfilm, Disney CEO Bob Iger and co-chairman Alan Bergman did not approve the film, ending its development.

Let's get into it. At this point, Disney has scrapped more Star Wars movie projects than it's actually released, and following a recent interview with Adam Driver, we can add one more to the list. Speaking to the Associated Press, Driver revealed that he and director Steven Soderbergh had spent two years developing a sequel to The Rise of Skywalker called The Hunt for Ben Solo that would have continued Kylo Ren's story. According to the article, Driver had originally signed on to the sequel trilogy with a character arc in mind that would have inverted Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader, but evidently it didn't quite shake out that way for Ben Solo slash Kylo Ren. Driver explained that he'd been in talks about another Star Wars movie since 2021, stating, quote, I always said with a great director and a great story, I'd be there in a second. I loved that character and loved playing him. Allegedly, the movie was pitched to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, vice president Carrie Beck, and chief creative officer Dave Filoni, and they were apparently interested. Scott Z. Burns, who'd worked with Soderbergh on several films, including Contagion and The Informant, was hired to pen a screenplay. Driver described it as, quote, one of the coolest f***ing scripts I had ever been a part of, and claimed that Lucasfilm loved the idea and totally understood our angle and why we were doing it. Now, here's where it hit a snag. It was passed along to Disney CEO Bob Iger and Disney co-chairman Alan Bergman, who said no. Driver claims, quote, they didn't see how Ben Solo was alive, and that was that. I'd like to point out that Bob Iger was still CEO when The Rise of Skywalker was in pre-production, you know, the one where Palpatine is suddenly not dead anymore, and the closest thing we get to an explanation is this old chestnut. Somehow Palpatine returned. Obviously, probably including Bob Iger, everyone knows that after Palpatine's original body was destroyed at the end of Return of the Jedi, he was able to transplant his Sith essence into a clone body stashed away on planet Exegol, and of course, clones age faster than regular humans, which is why his clone body looks older than his original body did when he died. I mean, kind of a no-brainer, right? But yeah, bringing Kylo Ren back from the dead, that would just be silly. Or would it? Let me know what you think in the comments below. Moving on, elsewhere in the world of galaxy brain decision making on the part of multimedia conglomerate executives, Warner Brothers Discovery might be up for sale. Last we heard, Warner Brothers Discovery would be separating into two distinct media companies, Warner Brothers and Discovery, respectively, by mid-2026, which is apparently still potentially happening, but following, quote, unsolicited interest from multiple parties, it's now also considering just selling the entire company. In a note to investors, WB Discovery president David Zasalov stated, quote, we continue to make important strides to position our business to succeed in today's evolving media landscape by advancing our strategic initiatives, returning our studios to industry leadership, and scaling HBO Max globally. We took the bold step of preparing to separate the company into two distinct leading media companies, Warner Brothers and Discovery Global, because we strongly believe this was the best path forward. It's no surprise that the significant value of our portfolio is receiving increased recognition by others in the market. After receiving interest from multiple parties, we have initiated a comprehensive review of strategic alternatives to identify the best path forward to unlock the full value of our assets. There were rumors a while back that Paramount Skydance was trying to buy WB Discovery, but no word yet on where these unsolicited offers are coming from. There's a lot of speculation that it could be Sony Pictures, Amazon MGM, possibly even Netflix. Disney seems less likely, but also we didn't expect them to fully swallow up 20th Century Fox in one gulp, so who knows? Anyway, one of the exciting ways that WB Discovery is scaling HBO Max globally to maximize shareholder value is by raising the price of the subscription service across all tiers. As reported by Variety, HBO Max Basic with ads has increased stateside $1 a month to $10.99, or an extra $10 a year to $109.99 annually, HBO Max Standard is up $1.50 a month to $18.49, or an extra $15 a year to $184.99, and finally HBO Max Premium has increased by $2 a month to $22.99, or an extra $20 a year at $229.99.
