The severe weather conditions are intensifying, marked by relentless rain and strengthening wind. Sand erosion is evident, with sand hills being washed into the ocean by powerful swells. The high tides have resulted in seawater flooding over car parks and nearby roads, deterring onlookers who are urged to heed the warnings from surf lifesavers and Queensland Police to refrain from visiting the beaches. Yet, some individuals continue to engage in risky behavior, ignoring the advisories to stay indoors due to the dangerous conditions. 

In a recent incident, a 70-year-old woman was swept off her feet by a surge further down the beach in Coromandel, resulting in a head injury. She was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital where her condition is stable. Authorities persist in issuing strong advisories to stay away from the coastlines and be indoors for safety. Meanwhile, the Brisbane central business district appears desolate, with most people reportedly adhering to the advisories to stay inside, with public transport services currently non-operational. The police have been actively inspecting liveaboard vessels to ensure they are adequately prepared for the adverse weather.

they are indeed. The rain is setting in yet again. The wind is getting stronger. You can see behind me this sand hill. It continues to be eroded. We've been here since about 11 o'clock this morning and each time a massive surge comes through with that easterly swell, more and more sand is being dragged out to the ocean when the swells and surges come through here, they are absolutely flooding this car park. There's still plenty of onlookers here at the moment, but all throughout the day there has been a seawater swallowing up the car park and going over the road as well. Now, plenty of people here are not heeding the warnings from surf lifesavers and from Queensland Police. The advice is to stay indoors and not to go near the beach because they simply say it's too dangerous. This swell is continuing to become more and more choppy. Conditions are worsening and yet we've seen plenty of people try and even swim still at this time, trying to catch waves, trying to get more photos. We saw yesterday further down the beach in Coromandel, a 70-year-old woman swept away in one of those surges. She hit her head on some rocks and was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital, thankfully in a stable condition. But Sandra, the advice tonight is to stay away from beaches and stay indoors. We have seen, I must say, some pretty silly and irresponsible behaviour late today, so let's hope people are listening. Thanks, Brendan. Let's go to Pippa Shear now. Excuse me, Pippa, you're in a deserted Brisbane CBD where people certainly do seem to be heeding the warnings there and staying home. Sandra, yes, certainly that seems to be the way things are happening at the moment. The only people we've really seen out are locals, residents who live in some nearby buildings and tourists who've been hoping to see the best of the River City. Unfortunately, though, they've got a front-row seat with not much to do. There is so many places that are closed at the moment. Of course, our public transport system has ground to a halt for the first time since 2011. Of course, that year there was a very significant flood event that impacted the southeast. There were no trains, no buses, no ferries and no CityCats. Those vessels have been pulled out of the water as a precaution. Earlier today, there were police vessels checking on people on liveaboards just to make sure they're prepped ahead of whatever's coming.
