Those attacks have so far destroyed 18 alleged drug vessels, including 17 boats and one alleged narco sub. CBS News National Security Contributor Sam Beningrad joins us now for this and other top headlines. Hey, Sam, so the military keeps attacking these alleged drug boats. What tension has this created, not only in the region, but here domestically? Well, Lindsey, just here in the United States, the use of the military to conduct these seemingly law enforcement missions has raised questions about the overall militarization of law enforcement that, of course, comes while there are other questions about this administration's use of, for example, the National Guard to conduct various missions around the country. So there are questions about why the military is being used versus plussing up resources to interdict and to gather intelligence on narco traffickers prior to drugs moving. It's also raising very serious questions about the legal authority that the administration is relying on to conduct these strikes. There are very heavy debates within the U.S. Congress about whether the president has the authority to engage in these strikes without authorization from Congress. And there are certainly divides on both sides of the aisle regarding that last question. So President Trump today hosted Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at the White House. And during their meeting, a reporter asked the president about possibly giving Hungary an exemption from sanctions on buying Russian oil. We're looking at it because it's very difficult for him to get the oil and gas from other areas. As you know, they don't have the advantage of having sea. It's a great country. It's a big country, but they don't have sea. They don't have the ports. What does it say that he's willing to give Hungary a carve out? Well, every president has to weigh various priorities when thinking about sanctions. But in this case, there are certainly real questions about how serious President Trump is about punishing Russia for their illegal war in Ukraine. Hungary is not the largest buyer of Russian energy. China and India are the largest, and Turkey is also a large customer of Russian energy exports. But the fact that Hungary, which is ideologically aligned with President Trump, Viktor Orban is ideologically aligned with President Trump, whether that personal affinity is a reason that President Trump is giving that carve out begs questions about the prioritization in play here, Lindsay.
