Local officials, including Chicago's mayor, reported receiving no prior notice of the operation. While ICE claims those arrested over the weekend were violent criminals, reports indicate that some individuals taken into custody were engaged in activities such as street vending. The operation represents a shift towards more visible and aggressive enforcement tactics, including the use of unmarked vans and targeting people in public spaces.

All right, to Chicago now, where protests have erupted there. That is where the Trump administration is ramping up immigration enforcement in a plan it calls Operation Midway Blitz. The Department of Homeland Security says it will target the criminal illegal aliens who flock to Chicago and Illinois because of sanctuary policies. Chicago's mayor says the city received no notice ahead of that announcement. For more on this, I want to bring in CBS News correspondent Asha Qureshi, who joins us now from Chicago. So, Asha, I note that the Operation Midway, which was a big battle during World War II, but also Blitz, which was associated with the German Wehrmacht, this is the name of this operation, kind of interesting as a history buff. But what does this operation mark as far as a shift in tactics for ICE? Right, and, you know, talking to people here on the ground, they'll say so far it's been more bluster than blitz. We haven't seen those mass arrests that have been promised as of yet, several people arrested over the weekend. But it does represent a marked shift towards more visible, aggressive street-level enforcement here in Chicago. ICE has now promised to deploy tactics that we once saw in mass raids using unmarked vans and targeting individuals in public, like vendors or people waiting for buses, rather than focusing strictly on those with serious criminal records. We know that one of the men that was taken into custody this past weekend was selling flowers on a street corner. Now, ICE maintains that the people they picked up this weekend were violent criminals engaged in activity like car theft and assault. But it also signals a more pervasive kind of enforcement in sanctuary cities like here in Chicago. All right. Dr. Qureshi, I know you're on the ground there.
