That will lead police to declare that an unauthorised gathering and the organisers will then challenge that application in court, arguing the bridge has been shut down before for marathons, for marches and, as they point out, for Hollywood movies as well. I know people will say that we have closed the Harbour Bridge before and it may well be closed in a short time again for the Sydney Marathon. This will be global news if we have, you know, thousands upon thousands upon thousands of Sydneysiders marching over that bridge. I want the killing to stop as well and I'm particularly concerned, like a lot of people, as I accept that this is a protest that many people want to have. My argument here is I can't close down the central artery for a city as big as Sydney. New South Wales Police made the point this afternoon they are independent of the Premier, Chris Mins, and this decision they reiterated was made on the grounds of public safety, saying they are open to negotiating with organisers to find a different location in the city for this Sunday. However, Sandra, they wouldn't comment on what would happen if organisers applied again to march on the bridge, but this time gave a little more than a week's notice.
