A widespread power outage in San Francisco left approximately 130,000 customers without electricity after a fire at a Pacific Gas and Electric substation. The blackout caused significant disruptions, including the closure of businesses during a busy shopping period and the suspension of Waymo self-driving car operations, leading to traffic gridlock and safety concerns.

By late Saturday, utility crews had restored power to over 95,000 customers, though about 14,000 remained without service. Pacific Gas and Electric continues restoration efforts, and a community resource center has been set up to support those still affected.

CBS's Nicole Valdez has more on how things are looking a little brighter. Nicole. Good evening, Jerica. Utility crews are still working to bring the lights back on in parts of the city after the blackout brought many neighborhoods to a grinding halt. Gridlock across the Golden City. A blackout plunged about 130,000 customers into darkness Saturday. Right now, we're focused on getting customers back online, back with power as soon as we can, and as safely as possible. The power outage impacting about a third of the city. The Pacific Gas and Electric Company blaming it on a fire at a substation. Restaurants and stores forced to shut down during one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year. No lights or nothing. I took my Lyme up here. I almost got hit by a car. No one can see anything. Dozens of Waymo self-driving cars stopped in their tracks. The company suspended the car's operations due to a lack of power to the driving sensors throughout the city. Cars left abandoned, clogging intersections. The lack of power locking the doors at this business, first responders using a crowbar to get workers out. By late Saturday, crews got the power back to more than 95,000 customers. About 14,000 customers are still without power, according to PG&E. There's now a community resource center to help those affected through tomorrow, if needed. Dorica? All right, Nicole Valdez, thank you.
