After the lingering effects of Priscilla and Raymond caused flash floods in Arizona, a new storm system is bringing rain and even snow to parts of California.

A potent weather system is moving into California and Oregon, bringing a mix of rain, thunderstorms, and the first significant snowfall of the season to the Sierra region. The storm is fueled by moisture from former tropical systems Priscilla and Raymond, resulting in repeated rounds of showers and severe weather warnings, including flash flooding and road closures.

Severe thunderstorms, damaging wind gusts, hail, and flooding downpours are possible, with a low risk of tornadoes in some areas. Authorities are urging residents to avoid flooded roadways and prepare for potential power outages, especially along highways and for high-profile vehicles.

Potent storm bringing moisture to the Southwest

We're tracking a system that is moving its way into California and Oregon, though there's two different things going on in the West, and I actually want to start off with Southwest. This is a continuation from this weekend. We got that influx of moisture first from Priscilla. Now this continues to be from Raymond, so tropical systems in the Pacific that have since lost their wind intensity leading to repeated rounds of showers, thunderstorms. We've seen severe thunderstorm warnings. We've seen flash flood warnings. A lot of storm reports of flooded roadways that had to be closed. Now we're going to see a Not seeing too many water rescues, so that's good news there, but I know there have been some. So take this as your reminder. You don't want to be trying to drive through any flooded roadways. You want to make sure that you are acting safely protect yourself and first responders. Then there's this system that I was talking about. That's what I mentioned. We had the camera view there in California, but area low pressure moving its way on shore now Southern Oregon and Northern California and this is very much a fall setup. I'm saying that for a couple of reasons here. We have it all. We have the rain. We have the thunderstorms. We have a severe weather potential, but then we also have a significant amount of blue on the map, which of course means snow. Seeing the first significant snow for the Sierra this season assign. Hey, ski season is on the way, but let's talk about exactly what you can expect. First of all, with these severe potential, this is tonight through tomorrow, and I will say our severe thunderstorms so far throughout the day have mostly been outside of this area. So don't think that just because you're not in a shaded region, you were in the clear. This is just where we're at. This is just where we're expecting the most widespread severe weather. The other thing to keep in mind. What we're most concerned about is damaging wind gusts, hail and flooding downpours. We cannot rule out a couple of tornadoes. There is a tornado risk tonight and tomorrow in this area. It's a low risk, but still something to be aware of, especially since that's not something we see a lot in that part of the country. Now the stronger wind gusts 40 to 60 mile per hour that goes beyond our severe weather area as well. So power outages possible and then also along those highways. Take note any high profile vehicles you can run into some problems.
