Police responded to reports of gunfire and discovered a man with a gunshot wound outside the complex. A subsequent search of a nearby wooded area, involving the SWAT team and county canines, led to the discovery of a man and woman, both deceased, in what police believe to be a murder-suicide. Officials have confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public, and no officers were injured during the incident. The investigation is ongoing, with updates expected regarding the condition of the surviving victim.

Nine News reporter Ali Kramer is live on the scene right now. Ali, you've been collecting new information all morning long. We have an independence police. I mean, just moments ago, their crime scene van pulled out of this neighborhood. This is the Taylor Ridge Apartments were just off Kentucky 16 in Lakeview Drive. And they said, Look, we're working on getting some identification for you because, as you mentioned, two people dead, one critically injured in the hospital. They're going to get that within the hour, they're saying is the goal, but they have been able to kind of wrap up their investigation, at least here on the scene. I want you to walk through. I want to walk through with you exactly what happened about 11 20 last night. Officers received a call for a shooting in this apartment complex. When they got to the scene, they found a man with a gunshot wound outside, and then they got information that there was possibly an armed suspect in a nearby wooded area. The SWAT team was called in, and Captain Mike Brock, with the independence Police Department, tell us tells us rather that they had to call in every canine in the county to search that wooded area. That's when he says they heard eight shots in the woods, leading them to a man and a woman. Both were found deceased in what they believe was a murder suicide. Captain Brock explained to us how they notified neighbors in the area. Good read is for for any emergency. If you if you have the app, you are, you get the alert. Um, and it's whether depending on what the call is, it can be a shelter in place. So it gives residents, uh, just, uh, an understanding of what's going on, at least in their vicinity. Again, there is no longer any threat to the public, and we're told no officers were injured in that search or that second shooting that they were investigating. But of course, as they continue their investigation, they're still working to get us an update. As I mentioned on the one person who is still in the hospital, the officer that drove by on his way out, said still critically injured as far as they know.
