A police pursuit involving a Toyota Yaris occurred in Northmead, New South Wales, after the driver failed to stop for a breath test on Evans Road at Tilopia. The chase ended when the Yaris crashed into a tree after clipping another vehicle, with the occupants fleeing the scene on foot.

Police apprehended one man believed to be in his thirties, who was later released pending further inquiries. The remaining suspects evaded capture despite a search involving the dog squad, and they remain at large.

Racing down a residential street, a Toyota Yaris and a police car hot on its tail. A split second later, the chase came to a chaotic end. Super fast, like, boom. I heard like, boom, boom, boom. And suddenly just a big siren from the police and then we started to hear noises. The car was coming too fast, it nearly hit me and the police was chasing all the way. It all began when the driver failed to stop for a breath test on Evans Road at Tilopia. Police chased them to Northmead, then just before midnight the car spun out of control. The Yaris clipped a ute and then smashed into a tree. The driver and passenger pulled themselves from the wreck and made a run for it. The police get in the car, trying to get the driver, the other two people to run away. Firstly I saw one man in black that I think he got hurt. Police caught up with a second passenger, a man believed to be in his thirties. Neighbours watched as he was pinned to the ground and taken into custody as police called in the dog squad to search for the two who fled. Residents have told 10 News that the driver and passenger fled through their backyards, managing to slip through the hands of police here on Glen Avenue as their mate was put in handcuffs. He was released from arrest later that morning, pending further inquiries, while tonight the others are still on the run. Hannah Taylor, 10 News.
