A car explosion in New Delhi, India, resulted in at least eight fatalities and over 30 injuries. The incident occurred at 6:55 p.m. local time near the Red Fort, a significant historical site, and involved a moving car with three passengers.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the explosion. Security forces and emergency responders are present at the scene, and investigations are ongoing. The blast, which set at least six cars on fire, took place in a busy area frequented by tourists and shoppers.

We continue to monitor the fallout from a car explosion in India that killed at least eight. Look at the aftermath there. More than 30 others we understand are badly injured. Devina Gupta with our partners at the BBC is at the scene where this happened. At 6.55 p.m. local time, this is the spot where an explosion occurred. From the preliminary report, we know it was a moving car. There were three passengers in the car. We do not know the cause of that explosion till now, but so far, the reports have also said that at least eight people have lost their lives, though around 20 people have been injured. And you can see that the country's elite security forces and national security guard are trying to set up a camp here because the investigations will continue, it seems, through the night. The country's Home Minister has just visited at this place, but just to give a context of where I am, on the left of my—for me is the iconic Red Fort. This is a monument built in the 17th century by the Mughals. This is also a symbolic place because this is where India's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, gave the address on the 15th of August in 1947, when India got independence from the British rule. And on the right of my hand is a congested shopping area. It's a residential area. So around that time in the evening, this place must have been packed with tourists, with shoppers, with people trying to go home. And now you can see this area has transformed into a security layer, a media hub here as well, because local media has now come here to report on this incident. There are fire tenders here, there are ambulances here. For now, we do know that at least six cars had caught fire in that explosion. Eyewitnesses have told that there was a loud sound which could be heard around two kilometers in this area. But the investigation continues, and those are the answers that the city is looking for, which is clearly tense tonight.
