The Australian Government has announced a reduction in the maximum copayment for general patients on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) to $25 per prescription, down from $31.60. This measure, set to take effect from the beginning of next year, is expected to save approximately 5 million Australians a total of $200 million annually. The legislation will be introduced to Parliament soon, and the change will make PBS medications the most affordable they have been in over two decades.

Meanwhile, political debate continues over climate policy, with some members of the Nationals party seeking to review or scrap the net zero emissions target. The UN's Climate Chief is in Australia, encouraging the government to adopt more ambitious emissions reduction measures.
