As the Paris Olympics come to an end, NGOs who have accused the French government of carrying out a social cleanup in Paris voice concerns over the fate of the homeless in the capital. Authorities have cleared out migrant and homeless encampments for months leading up to the Games, moving up to 5,000 people to other regions.

As the Olympic Games come to a close, NGOs have raised concerns about the fate of the homeless population in Paris. Authorities have cleared migrant and homeless encampments for months leading up to the Games, relocating up to 5,000 individuals to other regions. 

French authorities have been accused of conducting a social cleanup in the capital. Last week, many gathered at Bastille Square to protest these measures. The demonstrators included women and children who had been displaced from hotels and squats, and who resisted relocation because of their established lives in Paris. 

NGO Utopia 56 has reported that out of the 7,000 accommodation spaces they requested in the Paris area, only 200 were granted by authorities. The organization continues to advocate for those who have been affected, referring to them as the "forgotten of the Olympics."

As the Olympic Games come to a close, the French have come to a verdict. It wasn't the absolute disaster that Parisians were expecting. The only thing to say is it went by too quickly. On Monday we'll have to go back to reality, to the way things were before and try to move on. But I think that we can be happy with the image that France has projected and that in the end these games have been pretty successful. After weeks of political tension and divisions, rallying together behind French athletes, brandishing French flags and showing off Paris' beauty has come as a breath of fresh air. But hosting the Olympics has also come with some sacrifices and not everyone has had to pay the same price. NGOs have accused French authorities of carrying out a social clean-up of the capital ahead of the events. Last week many gathered at Bastille Square in protest. Women, babies and children are on the streets every day. We call them the forgotten of the Olympics. Those who have been kicked out of hotels, out of squats, those who didn't want to move away because they have a life in Paris. Police have been seen clearing up encampments in the capital leading up to the games, with over 5,000 moved to other French regions in temporary accommodation. NGO Utopia 56 says that of the 7,000 accommodation spaces they requested in the Paris area, only 200 were granted by authorities.

The talk comes a day after President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed Ukraine, Iran and other issues in a call the Kremlin described as "frank and constructive."
