The county has confirmed that an investigation is underway, with both the Office of Education and the Probation Department involved. The Office of Education stated its commitment to treating all students with respect, while the parent continues to call for accountability and transparency at the facility.

Mocked on Halloween. That's how one parent says his son felt when staff members inside the Youth Transition Campus dressed up as the minors they teach and care for. The parent reached out directly to ABC 10 News reporter Laura Acevedo for help. She tells us what he's now asking of everyone involved. I actually spoke with the teen myself. He called while I was interviewing his dad here outside the facility. He tells me he felt disrespected and degraded by the staff members actions. When teachers walked into the classroom last Friday at the Youth Transition Campus, students quickly realized something was different. Tell me what happened on Halloween. I spoke to 16 year old Javier Isaac on the phone from inside the campus. He agreed to a recorded interview over the phone with his father's permission. His dad, also named Javier, reached out to me upset after his son told him the teachers had dressed up as the youth detained inside, wearing their county issued uniforms and shoes as Halloween costumes. I decided to reach out to you, Laura, with Channel 10 for some help. The center, or YTC as it's called, is a facility that can house up to 96 kids who are in the juvenile detention system. While inside, they attend classes and have access to other support services. His father says this isn't the first time he's had problems with the facility. In fact, earlier this year, ABC 10 News told you the state attorney general's office launched an investigation into whether youths had been mistreated at county juvenile halls, including the YTC. There's a lot going on behind those walls that has kept the secret and that we're not aware of because they don't let us and because they don't let none of this get out. Late today, the assistant counsel for the county sent us a threatening email saying if we aired the interview with 16 year old Javier, we'd be in a violation of the law. Our attorneys are looking into whether that's true. In a statement about the Halloween incident, the county confirmed they are investigating what happened involving teachers from the county Office of Education, saying both the Office of Ed and Probation Department are coordinating on the investigation, saying in part that the county Office of Education remains quote committed to ensuring all students in its care are treated with respect and provided the support and opportunities they need to thrive. Javier's father is demanding an apology and more action that will show our kids that are behind those walls that there is accountability. They should be held accountable, just like our youth had have been to whether that is to be suspended or terminated. Laura Savedo, abc 10 News.
