Despite the announcement of a ceasefire agreement, life in Gaza City remains far from normal. Thousands of families are still trapped, cut off from aid, and struggling each day to survive. Rehab Asalia, from Jabalia in northern Gaza, is now displaced in western Gaza, living in the courtyard of a school after losing her husband, home, and two children, and is now raising her remaining children alone, under harsh conditions. How am I supposed to provide for them? Or help them? Or provide them with food? There's no flour. And as you can see, the tent has nothing, no mattress to sleep on, and no cooking utensils. I have nothing. I was displaced from the north with nothing at all. There was shelling, bombardment, and fire barrages. I ran with my children without taking anything with me. Across the city, life remains a daily battle. A spokesperson for one municipality paints a picture of families trapped without access to basic necessities. The situation in Gaza is still extremely difficult. People are getting insufficient amounts of food. There is water scarcity in the city. There is a huge and massive destruction in the infrastructure, and that makes people unable to live in their city right now. The guns may fall silent, but another battle begins when families must come to terms with their losses, and many in Gaza remain trapped, unable to return to the lives they once had. I'm standing near the southern edge of Gaza City, where the army has blocked all access. Thousands of families are trapped inside, facing each day just trying to secure the simplest necessities.
