Belgium's Maarten van Riel expressed his frustration on World Triathlon's Instagram page, arguing that if the priority had truly been the athletes' health, the event would have been relocated much earlier.

The successful races will come as a relief for Paris authorities, who have committed to providing a swimmable Seine as a lasting legacy of the Games. The investment includes $1.52 billion in wastewater infrastructure aimed at reducing sewage spillage into the river. As part of efforts to assure the public of the water's safety, Mayor Anne Hidalgo had even taken a dip in the Seine earlier this month.
