The New York Police Department has seized over 3,000 illegal guns from city streets in 2025, averaging 14 confiscations per day over seven months. City leaders, including Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, described the achievement as a major step in reducing crime and improving public safety.

Officials reported that New York City is currently experiencing its lowest recorded levels of shootings and homicides. Since Mayor Adams assumed office in 2022, more than 22,700 illegal firearms have been removed from circulation, contributing to a 54% decrease in shootings and a 36% drop in homicides citywide.

Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch joining other local and city leaders at the 42nd Precinct in the Bronx where dozens of confiscated firearms were on display from rifles and revolvers to pink and purple pistols. Adams says so far this year, the city's seeing the lowest number of shootings and homicides in recorded history. And overall, under his administration, there's a 54% decrease in shootings and 36% drop in homicides citywide. These are just stats to some, but they're more than stats to us. Thousands of guns off our streets means thousands of lives, thousands of families protected from violence.
