The Northeast region of the U.S. is currently getting baked by dangerous heat and humidity and is expected to continue into July 29 with record-challenging heat with storm potential on July 30.

The northeastern United States has been experiencing intense heat and high humidity, with temperatures reaching the upper eighties and dew points in the upper sixties to mid-seventies. Several cities, including Allentown, Manchester, and Mount Pocono, are expected to tie or break daily record highs, while Westfield, Massachusetts, may set a new record. 

Isolated storms are forecast for parts of the Blue Ridge and central Appalachians, but most of the region will remain hot and dry. A cold front is expected to move through, bringing scattered strong storms and a slight drop in temperatures, though some severe weather is possible during the transition.

Northeast U.S. gripped by heat and humidity

We've been watching out for some intense heat over the past couple of days. Yeah, you're not kidding. We've been in the upper eighties out there. The dew point is at 67 degrees. So that means if you cool the air down to 67 you would get basically saturation to occur. But this is the best measure of how humid it feels when you're outside, at least in terms of the moisture content in the air. Mid seventies in Louisville for the dew point low to mid seventies in Cleveland. Recent severe storms plowing through the Cleveland Metro there. We're gonna have some more heat and high humidity on Tuesday with a really sweltering day. Very hot for New England, the mid Atlantic states, the Ohio Valley and everybody in between. Isolated storms will break out into parts of the Blue Ridge and parts of the central and south central Appalachians. We'll look at that with future radar in a moment, but it's about the heat we're expecting to tie a record high in Allentown, Manchester, New Hampshire and in Mount Pocono in Pennsylvania on Tuesday. Westfield, Massachusetts may actually even break a daily record high for the date. So lots of big time heat out there. Nineties for most of us. Elkins, West Virginia, often an oasis from the heat 88. A little shy of the records from 1940, but it's still gonna be hot out there and watch for these isolated storms to break out not far from Elkins into areas near the Blue Ridge. But the rest of us just stay hot and dry, and we're dealing with some big time heat through Wednesday for the northeast I-95. But there's also a change in the wind. Here comes a front scattered strong storms in the transition on Wednesday, and behind that we turn a little bit less hot. There will be some severe weather potential. Mhm.
