It's now to the war in Gaza. More than 100 organizations have issued a joint statement accusing Israel of weaponizing aid in the enclave. The group says dozens of requests to bring food and medical supplies into the territory have been rejected by Israeli authorities due to registration rules on NGOs which were introduced back in March. Israel denies restricting aid and says those rules were introduced to ensure that help reaches the population directly and is not intercepted by Hamas. CBS News Middle East reporter Courtney Keeley joins us from our D.C. bureau with more on this. Good morning, Courtney. Tell us more about this joint statement and let's fact check it a bit with the reality on the ground as we understand it inside Gaza. Good morning, and so what we're talking about is over 100 aid groups, including an American aid group, ANERA, who's saying that $7 million worth of life-saving supplies is stuck outside the northern border of Gaza. And then we're looking at well-known groups like CARE and Oxfam. Over a million dollars worth of aid for each one is stuck in neighboring countries. So this is a call by over 100 international aid groups, very prominent ones, that are saying that millions of dollars of aid is stuck in neighboring countries and on the border of Gaza while Gaza starves. And they're saying that they wanna stop the militarization, the Israeli militarization of Gaza. So fact checking this, what we have to look at is these organizations have been going in and out of Gaza for decades and helping Palestinians there. The rules of entry have changed. And what they're also saying is they're too vague and they ask for personal details for aid workers going in. And they've changed the ideas that these well-vetted groups that should be going in the rules have changed to keep the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation there as the one aid distribution site organizer with four different sites. Now those four different sites, even just yesterday, we saw three different shootings at three different sites there. So it's chaos inside Gaza. The aid trucks can't really move in without a proper convoy, without proper security. The rule of law has broken down. They are looted, not necessarily by Hamas, but by hungry young men who are trying to help their families and have the strength and fortitude to climb on these trucks and swarm them.
