A large police operation is continuing in Mount Buffalo National Park as authorities search for an armed fugitive accused of killing two police officers. It comes as the wife of Dezi Freeman has broken her silence, urging her husband to surrender.

Police in Victoria's High Country are continuing their search for Desi Freeman, the accused in the deaths of two police officers. The search has entered its sixth day, with authorities focusing efforts around Mount Buffalo National Park and surrounding areas. Freeman's wife has publicly expressed sorrow for the victims and urged her husband to surrender, while also stating her family's respect for law enforcement.

Police have widened their investigation to determine if anyone is assisting Freeman, charging a local man after a raid uncovered an imitation firearm and drugs, though his connection to Freeman remains unclear. Despite ongoing efforts, including aerial and ground searches, there have been no recent sightings or alerts, and Freeman's whereabouts remain unknown.

Marley's lawyer told 10 News she isn't in a position to speak publicly as police have indicated she too could face criminal charges. These are heinous crimes, very serious crimes and the community want to be safe. Local worshippers for today's Sunday service were turned away as mass was cancelled with concerns for safety. Desi and his family are well known members of the church. The town of Porpanka have been rallying around Marley and her sons, even offering her places to stay and money. But those closest to her have been writing police character references of the mother of three saying she is a kind, caring and generous member of the community. As police widen their search and investigate if anyone is harbouring Freeman, a local man Stephen Mallett has now been charged. A late night raid of his property on Friday uncovered an imitation firearm as well as drugs. First thing I noticed when I come out the door, when I looked out the door with all these laser dots and I looked up once and I thought, shit. And I saw all of the hands on the triggers. Police are yet to determine if he could be linked to the fugitive, with the pair both frequenting doomsday preparation Facebook groups. No, never met him at all. The group that we're in together, Australian Preppers, I haven't had any input for about six years. This line of investigation took police to a property in Moraine South near the Buffalo River. They were at the property for just five minutes before it became clear it was another loose end. But officers are unwavering. And police will, as the chief has said, whatever it takes, for however long it takes to get that done. Sophie Jacobson, 10 News. Chris, not long ago, a bearcat followed by a convoy of heavily armed police vehicles made their way into the Mount Buffalo National Park. A police chopper has also been circling there and is still there right now on top of that mountain. And also moments ago, we saw an ambulance vehicle being let through that significant roadblock there. It's the first time we've seen them move away from private properties where most of their searches have been so far. The park has been shut all week, and today the chopper spent hours scouring the dense bushland there. But Chris, also worth noting too, at the start of this investigation at the beginning of last week, police were firing off frequent community text alerts, sometimes even twice a day, warning locals about the armed and dangerous fugitive. But there hasn't been any single alert since Thursday, and that was three days ago. As officers police head into their sixth night of searching, there is still no sign that they are any closer to finding Desi Freeman.
