This marks Abuja's second attempt to host the Games, after an unsuccessful bid for the 2014 edition, which went to Glasgow. If successful, Abuja would become the first African city to stage the Commonwealth Games. India, which previously hosted the event in 2010, views the 2030 Games as preparation for a potential bid for the 2036 Olympics.
