A recent CBS News poll indicates that many Americans continue to find housing and health care difficult to afford, with most respondents rating the U.S. economy poorly as 2025 draws to a close. Rising costs and prices remain a significant concern, and many believe the administration's portrayal of the economy is more positive than their personal experiences.

The poll also shows that Americans have not widely considered the economy to be good since before the pandemic, with ongoing struggles related to increased prices. Many are still waiting for economic adjustments to address these affordability challenges, according to the survey results.

On the political front, what do we see from the administration right now? They tell us they think the administration, the president, is making things sound better than they really are. That sets up an interesting dynamic going forward into 2026. Will the president's descriptions of the economy meet what people, what voters are feeling as we head into the midterms? But larger context, here's a chart how people rated the economy throughout the year. Most of them saying it was good. Others saying it was bad. The reasons people are saying things have been low, key thing here, these kinds of numbers go back for years. You have to go back before the pandemic to the last time that most Americans said the economy was good. That's about prices and costs. Things got more expensive coming out of the pandemic, and many Americans tell us they're still waiting and hoping for an adjustment to that and a fix. That's the latest from the CBS News poll.
