Central Texas is experiencing renewed flooding threats as heavy rain continues to fall in regions still recovering from recent deadly floods. Authorities have issued flash flood warnings for several rivers, including the Guadalupe, and some recovery operations have been temporarily suspended due to the dangerous weather conditions.

More than 12,000 volunteers have been assisting with reconstruction efforts in hard-hit Kerr County, but ongoing storms have forced many to halt their work and seek higher ground. Searchers have located the remains of a missing camp counselor, and community members are hoping that recovery efforts can resume once the weather improves.

New flooding threat in Texas areas recovering from July 4 floods

We begin with dangerous weather first to the West, where flames from a fast moving wildfire at the north rim of the Grand Canyon destroyed a historic century old lodge this weekend. Then, in hard hit central Texas, pounding rain and strong winds have prompted some rescuers to halt the grueling search for victims of the deadly floods that roared through the region just over a week ago. Right now, a slow moving storm system has triggered new warnings of flash flooding to several rivers in the region, including the Guadalupe. Karen was in Kerrville, Texas, with the new details about what's happening there. Karen. Good evening, Jerrica. Good evening to you. Showers here have slowed in Kerrville, but other parts of this region could see heavy rain through tomorrow, and all this rain could bring more flooding to communities downriver that are still trying to recover. Central Texas is hunkering down. A slow moving storm dumped more than half a foot of rain in parts of the region in the last 24 hours, washing out roads and pushing swollen rivers past their banks will probably end up not being able to do anything today and just try to try to get back at it in the morning. In hard hit Kerr County, search and recovery efforts were suspended because of the weather threat. In the past hour alone, we've gotten three emergency alerts from the National Weather Service, saying that this is a flash flood warning, a dangerous and life threatening situation. We're pretty close to the river right now, so our crew is gonna be evacuating and trying to get to higher ground as well. More than 12,000 people have volunteered to help with reconstruction efforts in Kerr County since last week. Just got to get out there and we've got to help people, and that's just what really pushes us. Searchers have also located the remains of missing Camp Mystic counselor Catherine Ferruzzo. Her family says she was planning to attend the University of Texas at Austin this fall. At a vigil for the victim Saturday, we met Kerry Scott, who drove 12 hours from Missouri. I was like, Please, Lord, just don't let it rain today. Let these guys get out here and just, you know, have a good day and help them find people and bring these families peace.
