While the Eastern U.S. is expected to see the first glimpse of fall, the same cannot be said for the West. Excessive heat alerts are in place across much of the West for the next few days.

Western United States

The western United States is currently experiencing a significant heatwave, with temperatures in cities like Medford reaching well above average highs. Forecasts indicate that temperatures could hit 104 degrees Fahrenheit in some areas, with only slight cooling expected in the coming days. 

Extreme heat warnings and advisories have been issued for regions including Reno, Spokane, and Yakima, as well as several metropolitan areas. The heatwave is expected to potentially break records in cities such as Seattle, Portland, Eugene, Yakima, and Olympia, prompting authorities to urge caution.

Much of the West experiencing oppressive heat

Pacific Northwest, a true gym of the world. A beautiful area, but this is not so great in Medford, where you have your temperatures going up in a tremendous way. Average high or 90 degrees. But look at that. I mean, we're going with 104. We do scale it back as we go down those steps. You'll notice that when you get into Tuesday, about 95 degrees can be expected, so cooler times are coming. Slightly cooler times. I don't think anyone is going to get any frostbite from these conditions, that's for sure. But we leave Medford and check out a few other locations and you'll see up and down the coast, and certainly into the desert Southwest. We've got temperatures that could be making history. Potential record highs in a lot of these locations. Extreme heat warnings. We've got those. We also have heat advisories in places like, say, Reno, Nevada, back into Spokane. Yakima could be affected. In terms of the metro areas, keep in mind, it is just amazing to see New Orleans, and Miami, and Houston, and Dallas, and in the case of Kansas City, you got a lot of them. But then when you contrast that with places like both Seattle, San Francisco, and Oakland, not as much. Goes down considerably because you don't need it. But you do need it now. And it is going to be up in really just tremendous ways. Next several days, hot times, the record heat for Seattle, Portland, Eugene, Yakima, and Olympia, possibly shattering some records.
