"Tron: Ares" and "Wicked: For Good" are expected in the movie theaters soon as the fall lineup comes into focus. Fandango's Erik Davis has more on the most anticipated movies.

Fandango surveyed more than 2,000 people to determine the most anticipated movies for the upcoming season. The results show a diverse range of genres, with 'Tron: Ares' topping the list. The film features Jared Leto and focuses on a battle between AI and humanity, promising impressive visuals and action. 

Other highly anticipated films include 'Wicked,' 'Zootopia 2,' and a new 'Avatar' movie, all expected to perform strongly at the box office. While 'Mortal Kombat 2' was also mentioned, its release has been postponed to a later date. Additionally, 'The Long Walk,' based on a Stephen King novel, was highlighted as a notable upcoming horror film.

Most anticipated movies coming out soon, according to Fandango

Before fans hit the box office, Fandango asked more than 2000 people what they think are the most anticipated fall movies of 2025. And as you can see here, the list includes everything, action, drama and comedy. I want to bring in Eric Davis, the managing editor at Fandango to break down this list. Eric, great to see you. Happy Labor Day. Let's start with what topped the list. What are people most excited about this fall? Yeah, number one most anticipated movie is that Tron movie Tron Aries. Jared Leto escapes the grid into the real world in a neon soaked battle of AI versus humanity. AI is a hot topic right now. Never more so in our movies. Expect dazzling visuals and cutting edge action made for the biggest screen possible. This one's a visual feast and so fans are already buzzing. Yeah, I can't wait for this one. Mortal Kombat 2. Wanna ask you about this because it made the list but it actually won't hit the big screen until next summer. Yeah, fans are, I think, a little disappointed this one just literally shifted to May 15th of 2026, which is actually a good spot because it's a nice primed summer release. Genre films in that date always do well, and so perhaps Warner Brothers moved it because it they felt like it would do better in the summer. But good news for summer of 2026. It just got another big move. OK, and I can't leave you without asking about Wicked. There's so much fandemonium around this. Do you think it'll make the winner list? Yeah, I mean for sure, without a doubt. I think you're looking at Wicked, Zootopia 2 and remember there is an Avatar movie this December as well. Look for all three of those movies to end the year in a really big way at the box office and I don't mean to ask you a controversial hot take question but are your favorites in line with the list that you all released or do you have any wild cards? You know, there is one film called The Long Walk based on a Stephen King novel that I would highly recommend not on this list, but it did make our horror list. I thought that was a really strong film comes out in early September. Bunch of stars that are about to be stars in that film, and so I highly recommend it.
