Airports in the United States are reporting record numbers of travelers during the Labor Day holiday period, with the Federal Aviation Administration expecting the busiest season in 15 years. The Transportation Security Administration estimates nearly 17.5 million passengers will pass through security checkpoints, while major airlines like American and United are anticipating their largest ever operations for the holiday.

Travelers have faced some disruptions, including flight delays due to storms in Texas and turbulence incidents affecting flights from Aspen to Houston and on Spirit Airlines. Most Americans are traveling by road, benefiting from lower national gas prices compared to the previous year, except in California where prices have risen. Domestic round-trip airfares are also reported to be 6% cheaper than last year, according to AAA.

Well, Jerrica, this is the calm between getting there and coming home, but millions of Americans are on the move. The FAA expects this year to be the busiest Labor Day holiday period in 15 years. The TSA says nearly 17 and a half million fliers are estimated to pass security checkpoints this year with shoes on. American Airlines is expecting its largest ever Labor Day weekend operation, flying nearly four million passengers. United numbers also expected to set a new record. Any concern about making sure you're getting to the gate on time? I think a little bit. That's why we got here early. Today, a speed bump in Texas. Strong storms delaying hundreds of flights in and out of Dallas. The getaway had a rough start for these fliers. Their SkyWest jet hitting turbulence on a flight from Aspen, Colorado to Houston on Thursday. Flight data shows it dropped 4,000 feet in a minute. Two people were hurt. Someone in front of me flew up and hit the ceiling three times. Spirit Airlines also hit turbulence. The Florida-based airline declared bankruptcy for a second time this year. Most Americans will move on roads. They'll find cheaper gas prices, down about 14 cents a gallon from a year ago. But not in California. Drivers saw pump prices jump 10 cents a gallon this week.
